The blue door across the street from the Equine Sculpture and Boss Murphy's in Churchtown Village leads you into the Booney House. The original part of the Booney House was probably built in the late 1700s as a village house to be occupied by tenants of the Earl of Egmont. The Booney House was occupied by the O’Sullivan family up to the 1980s after which the house fell into disrepair.
The derelict Booney house was purchased by Gerry Murphy
on 30th April 1999 and the house was restored and extended from 1999 to
2007 as a combined residential private gallery space. The architect for
the Booney House was Dana Hayes and the builder was Maurice Gilbert /
Ballyhoura Construction Ltd.
The Booney House is made available
for not-for-profit community events. For example the Ballyhoura Ramblers
meet in the Booney House on the fourth Thursday of every month. Further
