Gerry Murphy, who was born and raised in Churchtown, is CEO of  Market House Management Services ("MHMS"). 

Gerry Murphy is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland, holds a Bachelor in Financial Services degree from University College Dublin and a Masters in Business Administration from Fordham University, New York  which he studied at Irish Management Institute. He also holds the Advanced Diploma in Public Relations from the Institute of Public Relations in Ireland. Gerry founded the Churchtown Village Renewal Trust as a registered charity in 1997. He is a former director and chairman of the not-for-profit organisation Guaranteed Irish (national body promoting the sale of Irish manufactured goods and services) and the former chairman of the European Union's Thermie project for Ireland. He was a government appointed director of state owned Nitrigin Éireann Teo from 1997 to 2001. He is a former executive director of First Active / First National Building Society and a non executive director of Sherry FitzGerald Group and was employed in various capacities by Bank of Ireland for 17 years up to 1989.

Since 1997, Gerry has been a self-employed business person, community volunteer, company director, venture capitalist and a management services provider through Market House Management Services ("MHMS"). In 1997 he founded Strategic Equity Partners as a venture capital business aimed largely at supporting start up businesses. He founded Great Gas Petroleum (Ireland) Plc in 2005 and this business was sold to DCC Plc on 19th January 2009. He remains as chairman of Great Gas Petroleum which has now been converted from a PLC to a limited company. Gerry was also the Executive Producer of Bloom - a feature film based on the novel Ulysses (http://www.ulysses.ie) by James Joyce. Gerry is also chairman of the not-for profit management services company Clifden Glen Management (2005) Ltd. He is a director of several other companies largely as a result of his management services role.

Gerry was awarded the Cork Person of the Year in 2001 for "visionary rural renewal work" and was named Cork Business Person of the Month in August 2008.
