A NEW ERA IN CHURCHTOWN RETAILING ...
Ripton Kelly, the current Mayor of Churchtown, will be taking over the Costcutter supermarket in Churchtown village from 1st March 2010. Ripton will be taking the reins with the help of his wife Rosemary and children Troy, David and Jessica, and his aim is to build on what has been achieved in the shop so far, and to expand and improve the range of foods and services on offer.
Speaking this week, Ripton said “I am hugely excited to be taking over the operation of the shop in Churchtown. The shop is a vital part of community life and an asset which the village cannot do without. I will do whatever it takes to make it a success and I intend to listen closely to all our customers to find out what they want from their village shop. Any successful business is essentially a partnership between myself and my customers, and I will forge strong links with all sectors of the community. Also, if anybody has any ideas about how to improve the shop, please let me know.”
Ripton has lived in Churchtown with his family for over 21/2 years and in that short space of time has become very involved in community matters. He loves the village and it community atmosphere, and as well as being elected Mayor of Churchtown, he also finds time to run the local boxing club. “When I first came to Churchtown, I felt I was coming home, and felt part of the community. By running the shop I hope to be able to serve the community and give something back to the people who have given me so much. I am proud to be part of the village and am really looking forward to the challenges and successes which lie ahead,” he said.
Gerry Murphy, who continues to own Costcutter Churchtown and is now leasing it to Ripton, said, “I would like to wish Ripton and the whole Kelly family every success for the future. From the very first day I met Ripton over two years ago I knew he was going to be a great asset to our community and when I advertised the shop for rent last year I was delighted when Ripton showed an interest. Churchtown needs a thriving local shop and I know Ripton and Rose and family will ensure the shop is at the heart of the community. The future for village shops is as a family business which means I have to say good bye to our loyal staff to make way for a new era and in doing so I would like to thank Marcella and her team for their work and dedication over the years and wish them well for the future”.
